A Scout-Led Troop

Scouts plan it. Patrol leaders meet every month at the Patrol Leaders' Council to plan meetings and campouts around what scouts want to learn: knots, lashings, pioneering, first aid and more.
Older scouts guide newer ones. Experienced scouts serve as troop guides, one for each patrol, helping new scouts settle in and start advancing.
Scouts vote. The troop chooses its own summer camp. For 2027, scouts voted to return to Goose Pond Scout Reservation.
Leadership beyond the troop. Scouts attend National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT), and the troop sets aside funds every year to help them go. Order of the Arrow members serve at OA weekends, and older scouts have worked on summer camp staff.

Monthly parent meeting at the IWLA clubhouse: upcoming trips, gear, deadlines and how to help.
Troop committee of parent volunteers handles finances, advancement records, training, membership, equipment and Eagle mentoring, and meets quarterly for bigger planning.
Gear and fundraising: the troop keeps its own trailer and camping gear. Popcorn sales are our main fundraiser, helping pay for gear and for each scout's own trips. Patrols plan their menus and buy their own campout food.
